THERE'S NEVER SNOW TRAINING!
When the Siberian type weather threw the High Peak into turmoil last Thursday, it did not deter four dedicated swimmers from Buxton Swimming Club in getting up at 5.00 am and battling the blizzard condition in making it down to the pool. It got even more extreme when the dynamic foursome insisted posing for the above photo, just to show how hard they are. Pictured above are Assistant Coach and Fitness Instructor, Diane Lee; County Champions, Tara Walsh and Nicola Mackay and keeping up appearances for the boys, Paul Murray.
Buxton Swimming Club were again in action last weekend where they swam in the 2 nd round of the Crusader League. There were some impressive swims throughout the event with Buxton again emerging clear winners. Head Coach Gary McCaffrey said “it was encouraging to see continued progress from his swimmers who secured 36 wins out of 50 events”.
Swimmers from the Club are competing over the next 3 weekends in the Derbyshire County Championships, where they will be tested to their limits. At time of going to press Nicola and Tara had won 7 gold medals between them already after the first meet of three.
With most of the clubs swimmers in action in the Derbyshire championships at Clay Cross, the club fielded a young and inexperienced team in a Peak and Plain fixture at Poynton. However, senior swimmers Helen and Sara Heathcote and team captains Jess Higgins & Tim Bate helped create a fantastic team spirit to guide the club to a well deserved 2 nd place. This result was a remarkable achievement and all swimmers who competed can take great credit for their performances.
